THE ONLY REASON YOUR BABY IS A PICKY EATER

Loss of food interest after 1-2 months of solids is quite often, which is sometimes blamed on the teeth, vaccination, etc. Your baby perfectly opened his mouth literally a week ago, and today suddenly he began to completely refuse to eat.

1. You need to understand whether it was really food interest. If the baby opened his mouth to the spoon you suggested, this is not food interest. The child should be interested in food without your initiative, reach for the plate, try to drag a piece off the table, and so on.

2. Often, when food interest appears (or if the baby simply does not resist and opens its mouth), mothers calm down and think that this will happen all the time now. But food interest does not appear once and for all, it must be supported. And here mothers often make typical mistakes:
- do not understand what food interest is, how and why to support it.
- introduce certain products in a binding sequence, whether it is interesting to the child or not.
- they try to introduce the “desired” product by any means (for example, the child refuses cereal, but the mother is convinced that there is no life without cereal)
- try to bring the serving size to certain norms
- do not let the baby get acquainted with various foods, including the one that mom eats.

- they actively increase portions and replace feedings, displacing liquid food (breast milk/formula); all these actions lead to the natural extinction of food interest and, as a result, to refuse solid foods.

3. It is important to meet all the needs of the baby at different stages of introducing solids:
- the need for acquaintance with solid food
- the need to get acquainted with different tastes
- the need to get acquainted with the food from my mother's plate
- the need to eat less or more than usual
- the need for independence
- the need for support and so on.

The first two months of feeding is the most important stage when the base is formed, the basis of the whole feeding process. On how well this period will pass, depends not only on how things will be with solids in the future but also how the mother will organize the feeding in the future because she too gets used to a certain way of feeding her baby. If she is used to persuading a child to eat a zucchini and increase portions at an incredible speed, then it will not be easy to break this pattern, the thought “well, it used to work before” will constantly not give rest. So before you blame your child for being a picky eater in the future, make sure you know everything you need to know before introducing solids!
