WHY LETTING YOUR CHILD EAT IN FRONT OF THE TV IS A BAD IDEA!!!
Feeding with cartoons and other entertainment!!!
Why shouldn't you feed your baby using cartoons and other entertainment?
Surely, you know that feeding with cartoons is a bad idea,
but many still practice this method, and if not cartoons, then rhymes or songs, toys, boxes, ladles on the table to occupy baby's hands and, most importantly, the baby’s brain. The main goal is to divert the child to foreign objects /sounds/pictures because it seems to the mother, that the baby opens her mouth with pleasure and eats. And of course, refuses to eat without cartoons.
A child's brain is not able to focus on an interesting thing or moving pictures and on food at the same time. Therefore, if you allow your child to do something else other than eating (cartoon/toy, etc.), we simply “turn off” his brain from the process of eating. The child opens his mouth reflexively, and, accordingly, doesn’t completely perceive what is happening as having a meal, rather he is occupied with: a cartoon, shifting pots/lids/boxes, toys, etc.
Why is that bad?
- A wrong eating behavior and attitude toward food are formed. The child simply cannot eat differently, because he does not realize at all that he is feeding in this way.
- The ability to feel hunger and saturation disappears, the child overeats due to lack of control of his own body and does not seek to satisfy his hunger independently. Which leads to such dangerous (and, unfortunately, very common today) consequences, such as obesity, anorexia, bulimia, etc.
- If the brain does not recognize the body's signals about food intake and saturation, digestive problems inevitably arise, which often develop into chronic ones.
And of course, let's not forget that any feeding without the desire and participation of the child is violent. And forceful feeding, in spite of the fact that it makes it possible to feed the child somehow, greatly aggravates the situation in which the child refuses to eat.
